An ('UNHOLY') ROW' has broken out In New Zealand over a church Billboard aimed at challenging 'STEROTYPES' about the BIRTH OF *JESUS CHRIST*.
The poster(pictured here) shows a DEJECTED looking Joseph & a Sad looking Mary ,with the caption saying:'POOR JOSEPH ,GOD WAS A HARD ACT TO FOLLOW'; was put up outside ST-MATHEW-IN THE CITY CHURCH in Auckland,(within 5 hours of being erected
it was defaced with BROWN PAINT.(Pictured).
The poster has been highly CONDEMNED & DEEMED VERY DISRESPECTFUL & INAPPROPRIATE TO CHRISTIANS,by the Catholic church in New Zealand and other various 'Catholic Family Groups' have strongly opposed the 'Shocking poster'.
The Archdeacon 'Glynn Cardy' of the church stated, .."The poster's aim had been to 'lampoon the literal interpretation of the Christmas 'Conception' Story'".& To provoke debate...What we're trying to do is, to get people to think more what Christmas is all about.Is it about a Spritual Male God sending down his Sperm so a child would be born,or is it about the Power Of Love in our midst as seen through Jeus ?
Lindsey Freer,)spokeswoman for the Catholic Diocese of Auckland condemned the poster and said.. "The Christian Tradition of 2,000 years is that Mary remains a 'Virgin' and that Jesus IS the SON OF 'GOD' ,NOT Joseph".
The Archdeacon went on to say, that people who had contacted him about their views on the 'poster'; 50% loved it and 50% hated it.

I dont think its offensive at all. I understand catholics and christians believe that Mary was a virgin, and that she conceived thru divine intervention, and all that.
I believe that realistically speaking, she had to have had sexual relations with him in order to conceive her son. Doesnt history state this? ( im not sure, i thought i had read this somewhere) that there is in fact historical data of their union and family.
and another thing....why is it so important that Mary be a virgin? Then we also have the fanatical Muslims, who are committing suicide to be greeted by 76(?) virgins. It's sooooo MAN oriented.

History is more discrete than people think, it doesn't access bedrooms and check viriginity
and if it had accessed bedrooms and checked virginity, the church would have found a way to stop the information from being dispersed, by imposing guilt, and promises of eternal hell. Which it did with great success.
Maggie, perhaps it is not offensive but I believe it is a steryle discussion, as detailes as this are not important to faith
