listen, i was having a bath and thinking of you about an hour ago..HONESTLY .,..AHHAHAHAHAHAHAA
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT !!!!and just a few minutes before that AN APPLE FELL ON MY HEAD!!!!! I JUST KNEW IT WAS A SIGN,,,! BEcause i had to come in and put a cold compress on the lump on my head NEVER MIND .IT'S A LONG STORY..AHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA......i'm just wondering if i have concussion,,,,,...........

i am not well versed on the history of religions. I can only talk about what ive experienced in my personal life, and what my own sense of reason allows me. Frankly, i dont care for anything "institutionalized", it keeps us from free thinking, and reaching our own spiritual growth.
I would imagine that at some point, religion was and still is used to control the masses, a sense of brainwashing. And perhaps it was necessary in many cases out of sheer ignorance of the followers, while giving power to those who wanted to control those societies. I am grateful that i was able to make up my own mind about what beliefs i want to follow, and not be persecuted for those beliefs. In turn, I accept other people's belief systems as long as there is no human suffering involved..at the same time I dont have to agree with their ideologies. Having been raised by a strict catholic mother, at some point around the age of 14,( while attending a catholic school mind you )I no longer accepted its teachings. It has proven to me time and time again of its hypocracies. God-fearing people who attend sunday services, thinking they are absolved of any wrong doings....and anyone who doesnt follow certain rituals, will surely not enter the kingdom of God! Countless days at catechism, in the confession booth reciting my mortal sins of....telling a white lie or stealing change from mom's purse, seemed ridiculous to me. I dont have any answers to what is beyond this life, but i like to ponder and think about what there might be. Interestingly, whenever i ve asked specific questions about a sacrament, or purgatory, or a particular ritual(which i deplore),im usually left without any real concrete answers.
I did however get something out of all those days spent in church, reciting the rosary, the litany, a novena or two, or learning the Mass in latin ( Ugh!). I learned to meditate, to be still...and to have my own personal relationship with what i consider to be God. This later turned into a sense of spirituality without chocking me with guilt and shame. And for that i am grateful. Can't imagine not believing in something. If there is nothing beyond this life, then what is it all for? My life feels more fullfilled when i get a sense that there may be something beyond...that this is just a small journey toward the bigger picture. Exactly what that is, remains a mystery and that sits fine with me.
I used the catholic religion as an example only because that is what i am familiar with. I could have used many others..Islam for example. Had the opportunity to discuss some of its teachings with a muslim friend of mine yrs ago. I questioned their treatment of women as second class citizens, and with a glazed-over look in his eyes, he stated that contrary to popular belief, Muslims believe that women are to be protected, that is why they are shielded from public view, etc etc..(give me a break!)All i got out of our conversations was, again...
"control of the masses". This seems to be an underlying current.
