What is labor day?

We are enjoing a long week end here in the Usa: Monday is labor day here, no work no school, just like a Sunday. Many Americans take advantage of the long week end to go for a 2 or 3 days vacation somewhere, we stay at home and rest, if I want to go to the beach I go, it is just 1 mile away from home. I believe in Us and Canada is celebrated on September 7 to distinguish it from a more socialist or comunist holiday in other parts of the world as you can read it below

Labour Day or Labor Day is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from the labour union movement, to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers.
