While I mused over sweet and sour chicken or beef with green pepper in a restaurant in suburban Cairo,thinking to myself, the air conditioning is too cold,
Iran caught fire.
I came home 9pm Tehran local time
to this:
a young woman shot, so much blood on her face at first,I did not know if her right eye was gone could not tell where the blood was coming from.
But now, this I know:
she stood on Karekar Street a Basiji bullet toppled her entered her heart,and there, she died in less than 2 minutes.
This I know:
Her name was Neda she had brown hair and never thought she would be dead today.
And this I know:
Her father cried out one word in a language I cannot understand,over and over,while her heart pumped blood out of her nose and mouth.
Now
I sit on my bed,holding onto green yarn fashioning a bracelet like we used to when we were 13
3 strands,hold two, knot and pull.
Over and over.

Early career
Argento was born in Rome, the son of film producer/executive Salvatore Argento and Brazilian-born photographer Elda Luxardo. He started his career in film as a critic, writing for various magazines while still attending high school.
Argento did not attend college, electing rather to take a job as a columnist at the newspaper Paese Sera. While working at the newspaper, Argento also began to work as a screenwriter. His most notable work was for Sergio Leone; he and Bernardo Bertolucci collaborated on the story for the spaghetti western classic Once Upon a Time in the West. Soon after that film's release in 1969, Argento began work on his directorial debut, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, which was released in 1970 and was a major hit in Italy. His directing style was influenced by Mario Bava, Riccardo Freda, Sergio Leone, Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, F.W. Murnau, Walt Disney, Michelangelo Antonioni, Ingmar Bergman, and Federico Fellini.
Giallo years
Early in his directing career, he continued to concentrate largely on the giallo genre (more precisely known as "thrilling" in Italy, as the word "giallo"--Italian for yellow-- usually refers to generic mystery works). The films, like the lurid yellow-covered murder-mystery novels they were inspired by, followed the suspense tradition of hardboiled American detective fiction while incorporating baroque scenes of violence and excess. Director Mario Bava is credited with inventing the giallo film; Argento's passion in developing the genre has earned him widespread recognition as the key influence in popularising giallo cinema outside of Italy
Argento directed two further successful thrillers, The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) and Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1972). Alongside The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, these initial three films are frequently referred to as Argento's "animal trilogy". The director then turned his attention away from giallo movies, filming two Italian TV dramas and a period comedy (Five Days in Milan) in 1973 before returning to thrillers with 1975's Deep Red, frequently cited by many critics as the best giallo ever made. The film made Argento famous internationally, and inspired a number of other directors to work in the genre (John Carpenter has frequently referred to the influence Argento's early work had on Halloween). It also marked the start of Argento's long creative relationship with composer Claudio Simonetti and his Italian progressive rock group Goblin which was highly influenced by the mythical cult french band Magma.
In all of Argento's giallo films, Argento casts himself as the killers' gloved hands. However, in recent releases, he has stopped this practice.
Supernatural years
Argento's next movie, Suspiria (1977), an extremely violent supernatural thriller, is considered by many fans to be his best work, alongside Deep Red. Freed from the constraints of the more conventional giallo format, Suspiria is a semi-surreal work of art, where plot and character become secondary to sound and vision. Argento planned for Suspiria to be the first of a trilogy about "The Three Mothers", three ancient witches residing in three different modern cities. The second movie of the trilogy was 1980's Inferno. The Mother of Tears concludes the trilogy.
In between the two "mothers", in 1978 Argento collaborated with George Romero on Dawn of the Dead, earning a producer credit on the zombie classic. Argento oversaw the European release of the film (where it was titled Zombi) which was much shorter and featured much more of the score written and performed by Goblin.
After Inferno, Argento returned to more conventional giallo with Tenebrae (1982). He then attempted to combine giallo and supernatural fantasy in Phenomena, also known as Creepers (1985), which was one of Jennifer Connelly's earliest movies. Phenomena also showed Argento's predilection for using new technology, with its many prowling Steadicam shots. Both of these movies received a lukewarm reception upon release (although each has been re-appraised retrospectively).
Argento subsequently took a break from directing to write two screenplays for Mario Bava's son Lamberto Bava, Dèmoni (1985) and Dèmoni 2 (1986).
From the late 1980s and through the 1990s
Dario Argento interviewed by Martin Sauvageau during the Festival International du Cinéma Fantastique de Montréal in 1994.Opera followed in 1987, and was, according to Argento, a "very unpleasant experience". Set in Parma's Regio Theatre during a production of Verdi's Macbeth, the movie was beset in real life by misfortunes that Argento suspected were caused by the traditional "curse" on Macbeth. Argento's father died during the production, Vanessa Redgrave dropped out of the project before filming began, he had problems working with his former long-time girlfriend and collaborator Daria Nicolodi on-set, and the cast and crew were plagued by minor accidents and mishaps. The movie was again not particularly well received by fans or critics, despite showcasing Argento's skill with color and composition, and featuring some technically impressive camera movements (the ravens' descent in the Parma opera house is considered to be one of the director's most famous set pieces).
It is widely accepted that his 1990s career and onwards has failed to live up to his golden period between Deep Red and Opera[citation needed]. A collaboration with George A. Romero on an Edgar Allan Poe anthology titled Two Evil Eyes (1990), a stab at a mainstream Hollywood production (Trauma of 1993) and a version of Phantom of the Opera (1998) lost him many fans[citation needed], but he continued to innovate. For example, his 1996 The Stendhal Syndrome, in which a policewoman (played by Argento's daughter, Asia) who suffers from a dramatized version of the illness is trapped by a serial killer in an abandoned warehouse, was the first Italian film to use computer-generated imagery (CGI). Furthermore, the opening of The Stendhal Syndrome was shot in Florence, at Italy's famed Uffizi Gallery. Argento is the only director ever granted permission to shoot there. The Stendhal Syndrome was distributed in the U.S. by cult B-movie distribution company Troma Entertainment.
In the 21st century
Dario Argento discusses his film Pelts at the Torino Film Festival in 2006.Many saw 2001's Sleepless, deliberately designed as a "comeback movie" with its strong giallo theme and numerous references to his earlier work, as a step back in the right direction.[citation needed] However, Argento's follow-up, 2004's The Card Player, a giallo about a killer whose murders are conducted during Internet poker matches with the Rome police, earned a mixed reception: some fans appreciated the techno music score composed by ex-Goblin member Claudio Simonetti, but felt the film was too mainstream, with little of Argento's usual flourish.
2005 saw the TV broadcast of Argento's Do You Like Hitchcock?, in which the Italian horror-meister paid homage to Alfred Hitchcock after decades of being compared to him by critics. Later that year, he directed a segment of Masters of Horror, a Showtime television series. The story, "Jenifer", based on an old Eerie comics tale by Bruce Jones, was a departure for Argento, but provided him with some of his best critical notices in several years. Soon afterwards, Argento directed an adaptation of the F. Paul Wilson short story "Pelts" for season 2 of the series.
Concluding his trilogy
Argento finished the conclusion of his Three Mothers trilogy, The Mother of Tears. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6 2007.
The film is set in Rome and centers around the titular third mother, Mater Lachrymarum. Argento and Jace Anderson share writing credits for this movie. A joint effort between the Italian Studio, Medusa, and the American Studio, Myriad Pictures (which made Jeepers Creepers) financed the production of the film, allowing Argento one of the largest, if not the largest, budgets he has ever worked withArgento's daughter Asia was cast in the lead, along with Daria Nicolodi in a supporting role. Udo Kier, who appeared in Argento's Suspiria, and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, who appeared in three of his previous films, both have pivotal roles in the final Mothers chapter.

On 26 June 2009, Argento's newest movie Giallo premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Audience reaction to the movie turned largely negative about two thirds of the way in, with most of the audience laughing mockingly at many points throughout the remaining running time at the plot's absurd twists and the stars' bad acting.[citation needed]
Works and criticism on Argento
Maitland McDonagh [1] wrote about Argento in Broken Mirrors/Broken Minds: The Dark Dreams of Dario Argento (1991). He is also mentioned in Art of Darkness, a collection of promotional stills, poster art and critical essays edited by Chris Gallant. British journalist Alan Jones published Profondo Argento, a compendium of set reports, interviews and biographical detail.
In the documentary Dario Argento: An Eye For Horror, Argento described himself as a natural loner who often doesn't enjoy the production process because of the hours of social interaction that is required to make a film.[citation needed]
The director has acquired a cult fan base throughout the world.[citation needed]
Other work
He is involved in a horror memorabilia store located at Via dei Gracchi 260 in Rome named Profondo Rosso, after his classic giallo movie. In the cellar is a collection from his movies. The store is managed by his long time collaborator and friend Luigi Cozzi.

Aquarium hopes obese kids flip for athletic seals
BOSTON — Yes, he's obsessed with grooming, and he occasionally barks at you, but in most ways Isaac is not your typical fitness instructor. He weighs in at 350, eats 16 pounds of food at a time and he's only 9 years old. And he's a seal.
Isaac is one of five northern fur seals to be featured in a new exhibit at the New England Aquarium that aims to entice an increasingly obese generation of kids to get moving.
The seals twist, stretch, leap out of the water, run on their flippers and shoot like missiles under and between the fiberglass rocks. Isaac even stands on his head. The "Move It!" program at the New Balance Foundation Marine Mammal Center, which opens Wednesday, uses the seals' athleticism as an example for children.
"Those marine animals will do things that are jaw-dropping at times," said Tony LaCasse, an aquarium spokesman. "We wanted kids to be inspired by them."
The seals will dart around an open-air space in the $10 million center, built at the back of the aquarium on Boston Harbor.
The animals are rarely this close to the Atlantic. They live in the Pacific from Southern California to Japan, and north to the Bering Sea. Males grow to up to 7 feet long and 600 pounds, while females are about 5 feet and 110 pounds.
The seals are considered depleted under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and a big reason is the hunters who pursued its pelt — two layers thick and stuffed with 300,000 hairs per square inch. The pelt demands constant grooming, and the seals attend to themselves in an endearing way, contorting their bodies so their long flippers can get the job done.
Kathy Streeter, the aquarium's marine mammals curator, calls the northern fur seal a "Dr. Seuss animal" — a quirky combination of a sea otter and sea lion. It has ears, unlike the harbor seals common around Boston, has a distinctive bark and can prop itself up on its long flippers to look at visitors face to face.
That charisma, plus its story as a hunted and scarce animal, made it a good choice for a marine mammal center that seeks to help people relate to ocean life, Streeter said.
"They help give people a perspective on how the ocean affects everybody," she said.
The center opening is a sign of health at the aquarium three years after it regained its accreditation after repairing shaky finances. The accreditation was pulled in 2003 by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums after financial struggles and layoffs followed two major expansions in the late 1990s.
The new center's childhood fitness push comes as statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate 32 percent of American kids ages 2 to 19 are overweight, including 17 percent who are obese.
Panels around the aquarium will show seal moves like stretching, jumping and swimming, explain the ways the moves are similar to humans and encourage kids to "Try It!"
A guide that visitors get with their tickets includes more exhortations to move like the seals, and also eat some of the healthy fish they devour. In the center itself, the seals will perform stretches and moves with trainers, and some kids will be allowed into the shallow end of the seals' swimming area to exercise with them.
Paul Boyle, an environmental biologist and a vice president at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, said that other institutions have pushed programs that get kids engaged outdoors, but that tying seal moves to kid fitness was unique and innovative. He added that the center has a strong draw in the sleek, engaging fur seals — though attendance will ultimately be a measure of just how strong.
Figuring out whether the seals can inspire fitness is a tougher task, but Boyle didn't see it as much of a stretch.
"You can almost see a child in front of the exhibit, gyrating, trying to mimic the seal and saying, 'Well this is pretty cool,'" he said. "Then they go home and they may roll around in the backyard and then they may start to, you know ... run."

Supreme Court backs white firefighters in bias case
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court dealt a blow to President Barack Obama's high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor on Monday, overturning a ruling by her that it said would illegally deny promotions to white firefighters based on race.
The 5-4 ruling held that the city of New Haven, Connecticut, violated federal civil rights law when it threw out the results of a promotion exam after it yielded too many qualified white applicants and no acceptable black candidates.
Civil rights groups and other experts said the ruling in the closely watched racial discrimination case could affect promotion policies for employers nationwide, many of which operate under "affirmative action" programs designed decades ago to foster diversity and redress past bias.
"This decision will change the landscape of civil rights law," Fordham University law professor Sheila Foster said. Other legal experts said the ruling rolled back 25 years of precedent.
Splitting along conservative and liberal lines, the justices overturned a ruling by a three-judge U.S. appeals court panel that included Sotomayor, who is Obama's choice to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter.
Conservative critics quickly seized on the decision, authored by Justice Anthony Kennedy, to demonstrate that Sotomayor was "out of sync" with mainstream legal thinking. If confirmed, she would become the top court's first Hispanic justice.
Opinion polls show strong support for Sotomayor's nomination. It is unclear how much opposition critics will mount when Senate confirmation hearings start on July 13.
'UNTOLD' DAMAGE
The court's liberals issued an impassioned dissent to the ruling. "Congress endeavored to promote equal opportunity in fact and not simply in form. The damage today's decision does to that objective is untold," Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, taking the rare step of reading her dissent from the bench.
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of a group of 19 white firefighters and one Hispanic firefighter who filed a lawsuit in 2004 against New Haven.
The firefighters said they would have been promoted if the city had not thrown out the tests for lieutenant and captain because no blacks had scored high enough to move up in rank.
It marked the first ruling by the court addressing racial discrimination in employment under Chief Justice John Roberts, who joined the court in 2005. In 2007, the court's conservative majority barred public schools from taking race into account to achieve or maintain integration.
Senator John Cornyn, one of seven Republicans on the 19-member Senate Judiciary Committee that will hear Sotomayor's nomination, applauded the decision. "And while the justices divided on the outcome, all nine justices were critical of the trial court opinion that Judge Sotomayor endorsed," he said.
Conservative legal analysts agreed. The ruling "suggests that we have somebody who's quite out of sync with the right approach to the law in this area," said Roger Clegg, who heads the Center for Equal Opportunity, a conservative think tank.
But Sotomayor appears to be winning support among a broad cross section of Americans. A Washington Post poll published on Sunday showed 62 percent of those polled supported her elevation to the Supreme Court.
New Haven argued that if it had gone ahead with the promotions based on the test results, it would have risked a lawsuit claiming the exam hurt minorities in violation of federal civil rights law. But Kennedy said fear of litigation alone cannot justify reliance on race to the detriment of people who passed the exam and qualified for promotions.
The dispute was one of two major civil rights cases that reached the Supreme Court after Obama became the nation's first black president. In the other one, the court last week declined to decide a constitutional challenge to the Voting Rights Act that seeks to ensure access to the polls by minorities

Questa volta scrivo un post breve e semi-pubblicitario. Qualche giorno fa ho avuto il piacere e l'onore di discutere in treno con un ingegniere "italo-francese" di grande conoscenza e di approfonditi studi, che mi ha spiegato e mostrato come la Napoli pre-unitaria in realtà fosse tutt'altro che arretrata.La "città della seta" e del Vesuvio constava di qualcosa come 50,000 lavoratori nell'industria tessile ed era seconda solo alla "canuserie" lionese.Mi permetto di segnalare il post specifico in cui Monaud (il nostro eccezionale blogger) scrive di Napoli come la Manchester del Sud e segnalo allo stesso tempo il suo blog (che potete trovare qui oppure al lato tra i miei preferiti).

On an average, there are more than 6 million car accidents on the roads of the US, annually.
More than 3 million people get injured due to car accidents, with more than 2 million of these injuries being permanent.
There are in excess of 40,000 deaths due to car accidents every year. Although this is a very high number by itself, some heart can be taken in the fact that statistics show that car accident fatalities have been witnessing a downward trend in recent years.
The majority of car accidents could be avoided if only the drivers would drive more responsibly. About 40% of car accident fatalities occur because of a drunken driver. About 30% of the car accident fatalities can be attributed to driving above the speed limits and 33% and above because of reckless driving that causes the car to go off the road and result in an accident.
The majority of car accident victims are the drivers, then the passengers of the car, followed by pedestrians, and lastly cyclists.
Every 12 minutes, one person dies because of a car accident. Every 14 seconds, a car accident results in an injured victim.
For those in the age group of 1 to 30 years, the leading cause of death is due to being involved in a car accident. People, who are between 15 to 24 years, and those who are above 75 years of age, are the people who are most severely affected by car accidents.
According to the car accident statistics released by the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT’s) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were almost 43,000 deaths in 2002 because of car accidents. The car accident fatalities for the year 2003 stand at 42,643.
In 2002, there were around 6,316,000 car accidents in the US, with these causing about 2.9 million injuries. In 2003, the total number of car accidents was 6,328,000 and the resulting injuries stood at almost 3 million.
More than 25% of all car drivers were involved in car accidents in a five year period.
In more than half of all car accident fatalities, the deceased were found not to be wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Even with seat belts being mandatory, a vast majority of people choose to disregard this safety precaution and end up losing their lives because of it.
Many car accidents are caused by people talking to other passengers while driving, and others due to drivers playing with the radio while driving. A large percentage is because of eating or drinking while driving, and 25% of car accidents are caused due to talking on the mobile phone while at the wheel of the car. These car accident statistics are sad enough on their own, the saddest part being that they could have easily been avoided had drivers been paying more attention to driving and less to other activities.

Iranian cleric: Some in unrest should be executed

A senior Iranian cleric demanded in a nationally broadcast sermon Friday that leaders of election protests be punished harshly, with some "worthy of execution." The country's increasingly isolated opposition leader effectively ended his role in the demonstrations, saying he'll seek permits for future rallies.
Iran's ruling clergy has widened its crackdown on the opposition since the bitterly disputed June 12 presidential election, and scattered protests have replaced the initial mass gatherings.
The official Web site of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, his main tool of communicating with his supporters, was hacked Friday, leaving it blank, an aide said.
Mousavi has said victory was stolen from him through fraud, challenging the proclamation of hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the winner.
Mousavi has sent mixed signals to his supporters in recent days, asking them not to break the law, while pledging not to drop his challenge of the election.
Hundreds have been detained since the vote, including journalists, academics and university students, and a special court has been set up to put them on trial.
At least 17 people have been killed in the protests, in addition to eight members of the pro-government Basij militia, the government has said.
President Barack Obama, joined at the White House by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, hailed the demonstrators in Iran and condemned the violence against them.
"Their bravery in the face of brutality is a testament to their enduring pursuit of justice," Obama said. "The violence perpetrated against them is outrageous. In spite of the government's efforts to keep the world from bearing witness to that violence, we see it and we condemn it."
Obama scoffed at accusations Thursday of U.S. meddling in Iran by Ahmadinejad, who called for "repentance" by the U.S. leader. Obama added that Mousavi has "captured the imagination or spirit" of those inside Iran who are "interested in opening up."
In a Friday sermon at Tehran University, a senior cleric, Ayatollah Ahmed Khatami, called for harsh retribution for dissent.
"Anybody who fights against the Islamic system or the leader of Islamic society, fight him until complete destruction," he said in the nationally broadcast speech.
The cleric alleged that some involved in the unrest had used firearms.
"Anyone who takes up arms to fight with the people, they are worthy of execution," he said. "We ask that the judiciary confront the leaders of the protests, leaders of the violations, and those who are supported by the United States and Israel strongly, and without mercy to provide a lesson for all."
Khatami said those who disturbed the peace and destroyed public property were "at war with God," and said they should be "dealt with without mercy."
He reminded worshippers that Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rules by God's design and must not be defied.
The cleric also lashed out at foreign journalists, accusing them of false reporting, and singled out Britain for new criticism.
"In this unrest, Britons have behaved very mischievously and it is fair to add the slogan of 'down with England' to slogan of 'down with USA,'" he said, interrupted by worshippers' chants of "Death to Israel."
Earlier this week, Iran expelled two British diplomats, prompting the expulsion of two Iranian diplomats by Britain.
In Trieste, Italy, foreign ministers of the Group of Eight countries called for an end to the violence in Iran and urged the authorities to find a peaceful solution.
Also Friday, more than 150 demonstrators attacked the Iranian Embassy outside the Swedish capital of Stockholm, throwing stones, breaking windows and injuring one worker, police said. Officers evicted the few demonstrators who climbed in through broken windows and arrested one person, said police spokesman Ulf Hoglund.
Khatami, meanwhile, alleged that the icon of the opposition, slain protester Neda Agha Soltan, was killed by demonstrators, not the Iranian security forces. Soltan, 27, was killed by a shot to the chest last week, on the sidelines of a protest.
"The proof and evidence shows that they (protesters) have done it themselves and have raised propaganda against the system," he said. "I say hereby that these deceitful media have to know that the ordeal will be over and shame will remain for them."
In London, an Iranian doctor who said he tried to save Soltan as she bled to death, told the BBC she apparently was shot by a member of the Basij militia. Protesters spotted an armed member of the militia on a motorcycle, and stopped and disarmed him, said Dr. Arash Hejazi.
The man appeared to admit shooting Soltan, shouting "I didn't want to kill her," but the furious protesters confiscated his identity card and took photographs of him before letting him go, Hejazi said.
In quelling protests, Basij militiamen have broken up even small groups of people walking together to prevent any possible gathering. Still, dozens of friends and relatives of Soltan managed to pay tribute Friday, arriving at Tehran's Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in groups of two and three, uttering brief prayers and placing flowers on her grave, witnesses said.
Vigils for Soltan have been held around the world.
Mousavi, who has said he is being increasingly isolated, lost his main link to the world after his official Web site, Kalemeh, came up blank and stripped of any text or pictures. Mousavi's associate Ali Reza Beheshti told The Associated Press the site had been taken down by unknown hackers.
In a message on the site late Thursday, Mousavi had said he would seek permission for future protests, even though he said unfair restrictions were being imposed. He said he has been asked by the Interior Ministry to apply in person, a week in advance.
The opposition leader noted that Ahmadinejad has been able to hold two postelection marches and a Tehran rally "that were well-publicized on state television, seeming to encourage participation with their regularly advertised march routes."
Mousavi has said the authorities are pressuring him to withdraw his challenge by trying to isolate and discredit him. He hasn't led a rally in more than a week.
Khamenei has ordered a large security detail around Mousavi — ostensibly to protect him, but presumably also to restrict his movements. Authorities have also targeted those close to Mousavi.
Late Thursday, state TV reported that the head of Mousavi's information committee, Abolfazl Fateh, was banned from leaving for Britain. The report, which could not be verified independently, identified Fateh as a doctoral student in Britain.
The semiofficial Fars news agency said Fateh was banned from travel so authorities could investigate "some of the recent gatherings," a reference to election protests.
At least 11 Mousavi campaign workers and 25 staffers on his newspaper have been detained. On Wednesday, 70 university professors were detained after meeting with Mousavi. All but four have been released. Those still in custody included his former campaign manager.

Si tratta della realizzazione del principio di uguaglianza sostanziale fra uomini e donne nel lavoro, mediante l’adozione di misure volte ad eliminare gli ostacoli che impediscono di fatto la realizzazione di pari opportunità. Tale principio deve attuarsi attraverso l’eliminazione delle disparità di fatto cui sono soggette le donne nella formazione scolastica e professionale, nell’accesso al lavoro, nella progressione della carriera. Devono essere attuate azioni positive volte ad incentivare l’accesso delle donne al lavoro autonomo, alla formazione imprenditoriale, a tutti quei settori dove sono sottorappresentate, a livelli di responsabilità. Infine deve essere favorito, anche attraverso una diversa organizzazione del lavoro, l’equilibrio tra responsabilità familiari e professionali, per raggiungere una migliore ripartizione di tali responsabilità fra i due sessi.
Tali principi sono enunciati dalla Legge 10 aprile 1991, n. 125.
La normativa prevede rimborsi e finanziamenti per i datori di lavoro che pongono in essere progetti e programmi di formazione volti a superare le disparità fra i due sessi. La legge contiene norme che disciplinano l’esperimento delle azioni giudiziarie esperite per colpire atti di discriminazione diretta, indiretta e collettiva.
Al fine di promuovere la rimozione dei comportamenti discriminatori per sesso e di ogni altro ostacolo che limiti di fatto l'uguaglianza delle donne nell'accesso al lavoro e sul lavoro e la progressione professionale e di carriera è istituito, presso il Ministero del lavoro e della previdenza sociale, il Comitato nazionale per l'attuazione dei princìpi di parità di trattamento ed uguaglianza di opportunità tra lavoratori e lavoratrici. Il mio parere
ci ho pensato e ripensato, come mai ci ribelliamo tanto a qualche frase pungente e denigratoria noi che veniamo da un chat dove ne abbiamo sentite di tutti i colori rimanendo li per anni ? Era sopraggiunto dalla solatìa Romagna qualche mese prima. Un donnino, anch’esso piuttosto dimesso, dalla infelice corporatura di piccola taglia, deciso, però, a farsi notare mediante l’uso di strettissime minigonne semitrasparenti che lasciavano intravedere esigue mutandine a fil di culo, oggetto, anch’esse, del divertito dileggio della ragazzaglia del paese che ne seguiva da vicino l’incedere al momento di salire le scale dell’edificio dell’amministrazione della grande fabbrica produttrice di grossi bidoni per gli immondezzai pubblici, diretta verso gli uffici situati al terzo piano del palazzo.Solo qualche tempo dopo già si vociferava che il capufficio usava tracannare qualche birra o “un grappino” durante le ore di lavoro. Ne erano state trovate tracce sotto forma di lattine e bottiglie in qualche segreta scansìa del suo stesso ufficio. Ma ciò che aveva destato l’allarme dei superiori era stato il sospetto, avallato da certe manifestazioni isteriche della donnetta, dell’assunzione di droga. Per tali motivi Colombo aveva ricevuto l’incarico di indagare sul passato e sulla figura di quella sciagurata. Lei aveva deciso di farsi rispettare e di comandare, aliena da qualsiasi tipo di approccio cultural-professionale con i suoi dipendenti relativamente ai problemi scottanti dell’immondizia della fabbrica; si piccava, infatti, di essere una specialista sui problemi del lerciume degli immondezzai in genere, inconsapevole della sua ignoranza circa tali problematiche professionali per cui cercava di usare un insano dispotismo maniacale tagliando corto su tutte le discussioni a lei invise o facendo la gnorri o ponendo in essere minacce più o meno velate verso gli impiegati refrattari ai suoi diktat.Il suo livore appariva ben manifesto allorquando, inviperita per la vista di una qualche impiegata elegante e ingioiellata, mostrava il viso, già di per sé vizzo e cascante, livido per il malcelato disappunto. Pope Benedict XVI: Smiling killer…
Benedict XVI (aka Joseph Alois Ratzinger) became Pope on April 19, 2005. Since then hundreds of thousands have died of AIDS in Africa; many more suffer as the disease ravages their bodies. He still tells us contraception is unacceptable. I have been watching this issue for three years and find this totally sickening. Why is the ‘civilised world’ not acting against this ridiculous policy?
He said in 2005:
It is of great concern that the fabric of African life, its very source of hope and stability, is threatened by divorce, abortion, prostitution, human trafficking and a contraception mentality.
In April 2005, Africa had around 13% (around 143 million) of all Catholics worldwide. Benedict (which obscenely means ‘the blessed’) is punishing those that take his teachings literally. I personally know many friends who just ignore it. I am not just talking England here, the people I refer to are in Catholic ‘strongholds’ such as Eire and the USA. What really pisses me off is that we go to enormous lengths to ‘save’ people all over the world in the face of natural disasters. In this case, nobody has the balls to ‘face-off’ the ‘Holy Catholic Church’.
I don’t care what people believe. Personally, I think the ten commandments were a piece of pretty badass thinking but as we see everyday Religion, in the wrong hands, is the most divisive and destructive force we humans have so far dreamt up…
Barrier contraception must be accepted eventually but the pontiff’s continued procrastination may result in more people being killed than in the holocaust. If the Catholic Church modified their thinking, the problem wouldn’t stop, but even if it saved one child’s life, wouldn’t it be worth it?

Well said. There is also the practice of teaching school children this policy although it’s done under the guise of teaching them about pregnacy health care. This is done by people who are blinded by these infallible teachings and who really should know better. The Catholic Church has a long history of getting it wrong: Inquisitions, neglecting to help Jews during WW2, contraception, ordination of women priests, the profoundly abhorrent ignorance of thousands of children molested at the hands of priests (neglect being a form of abuse). The list goes one for the worlds first and wealthiest conglomerates (or is that pyramid scheme?).

Martin. Thanks for this. I agree but the same can be said for any leader and/or organisation that is all powerful.
Lord Acton really said it all. In 1870 came the great crisis in Roman Catholicism over Pope Pius IX’s promulgation of the dogma of papal infallibility. Acton made his most famous pronouncement in a letter wrote to Bishop Mandell Creighton in April 1887:
“I cannot accept your canon that we are to judge Pope and King unlike other men with a favourable presumption that they did no wrong. If there is any presumption, it is the other way, against the holders of power, increasing as the power increases. Historic responsibility has to make up for the want of legal responsibility. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”

Why are children dying?
More than 30 million children are unimmunized either because vaccines are unavailable, because health services are poorly provided or inaccessible, or because families are uninformed or misinformed about when and why to bring their children for immunization.Pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria, measles, HIV/AIDS and malnutrition are the primary killers of children in the developing world. These children die because they are poor, they do not have access to routine immunization or health services, their diets lack sufficient vitamin A and other essential micronutrients, and they live in circumstances that allow pathogens (disease-causing organisms) to thrive.
The possibility that children will become seriously ill or die depends largely on whether their immune systems can fight off infections. Malnutrition, combined with unsanitary or crowded conditions, makes them extremely vulnerable. Measles, for instance, rarely kills in industrial countries but can cause up to 40 per cent mortality among infected children in dire and overcrowded situations which may occur following earthquakes, floods or when populations are displaced by conflict.
A variety of pathogens – bacteria, viruses and parasites – are responsible for the major childhood diseases. Bacteria causes tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and tuberculosis. Viruses cause polio and measles. A single-celled parasite causes malaria.
Measles, a viral respiratory infection, killed over 500,000 children in 2003, more than any other vaccine-preventable disease. The measles death toll in Africa is so high – every minute one child dies – that many mothers don't give children real names until they have survived the disease. Measles weakens the immune system and renders children very susceptible to fatal complications from diarrhoea, pneumonia and malnutrition. Those that survive may suffer blindness, deafness or brain damage.
Tetanus, referred to in the Old Testament as the “seventh-day death,” killed an estimated 200,000 newborns and 30,000 mothers in 2001. The tetanus bacteria are ubiquitous – they live in soil, in animal dung and in feces. Tetanus can infect newborns if the umbilical cord is cut with unsterile instruments or the incision treated with contaminated dressings.
In acute respiratory infections such as diphtheria or pertussis, bacteria can attack the lungs or bronchial tubes, causing chronic coughs, pneumonia and breathing difficulties. Pertussis – also known as whooping cough – kills about 300,000 children a year, while a third respiratory infection, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) pneumonia kills about 500,000.
“In cases like Afghanistan with a combination of conflict and prolonged drought, the coping mechanisms of children have dwindled. They are malnourished; they suffer from a variety of illnesses. If they have a bout of measles, the fatality rates will be high.” – Deputy Director, UNICEF Supply Division, Shamsul Farooq, former Senior Programme Officer in the Humanitarian Response Unit.
Polio, a viral infection of the nervous system, can cause crippling paralysis within hours. Significant progress has been made towards eradicating the disease, but it remains a serious threat to children in areas where the wild poliovirus still circulates. The number of cases worldwide dropped from 350,000 in 1988 to under 1,300 in 2004.
Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), prevalent mainly in developing countries, is estimated to cause approximately 3 million cases of serious disease and kills about 450,000 children every year. Most children die from pneumonia and a minority from meningitis. In developing countries about 40% of Hib meningitis cases are fatal, and 15-35% of children who survive are left with permanent disabilities. Despite gradual uptake of the Hib vaccine in developing countries, in 2001, only one in five children worldwide were immunized against Hib during the first year of life.
Rotavirus, a pervasive wheel-shaped virus, is a leading cause of severe diarrhoea in infants and young children, particularly in the developing world. Currently, there is no vaccine approved for the disease, which kills 600,000 children under five each year.
Hepatitis B virus infects many infants and children – more than 2 billion people have been infected with the virus at some point, and an estimated 350 million are lifelong carriers. However, most don't develop the clinical disease until several decades later when the virus can cause inflammation of the liver and lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Yellow fever, a viral disease that occurs primarily in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and South America, kills 30,000 each year. The virus is transmitted most often through the bite of the female Aedes aegypti mosquito. Once controlled fairly well by widespread vaccination and mosquito control, the disease is making a comeback and outbreaks are becoming more frequent.
The parasitic disease malaria is responsible for a staggering number of deaths - over one million a year - the majority children under five. A child dies every 30 seconds from malaria, many in just days after infection. Pregnant women infected with malaria can give birth to underweight babies who are then vulnerable to other diseases.
Today, 90 per cent of malaria cases occur in sub-Saharan Africa. Malaria, so named by the Romans because they believed it arose from bad (mala) air (aire) floating up from nearby swamps, is in fact caused by a single-celled parasite, Plasmodium, which is transmitted by the bite of the Anopheles mosquito. Though there is no vaccine for malaria, it can be controlled with mosquito nets and insect repellant, and is often treatable with antimalarial drugs.
