Special dedication to Mrs. K.
PHISH, not Fish. Yes, it's getting to the point where every word with that similar sound, I spell "ph" instead of "f".
On June 7th, 2009 at 8 pm I began to witness the greatest band of all time, Phish. For many, this was probabaly their 47308430984 concert, as many people follow this band when they go on tour. Phish is a band that takes simple progressions and expands on them to no end. They create the most eleborate, beautiful, crazy awesome fun time out of some simple ideas. They do this by going into epic collective improvisations where each player communicates musically with each other and the audience, and usually go on for 5 minutes or more.
The set list:
Set 1:
Chalk Dust Torture
Fee
Wolfman's Brother
Guyute
My Sweet One
46 Days
The Lizards
The Wedge
Strange Design
Tube
Set 2:
Sand
Suzy Greenberg
Limb by Limb
The Horse
Silent in the Morning
Sugar Shack
Character Zero
Tweezer
Encore:
Joy
Bouncing Around the Room
Run like an Antelope
Tweezer Reprise
PHEWWWWW! Amazing. Chalk dust torture is a kickin song to start off a show, followed by a tropical feeling Fee and then the Wolfman's brother to slow it down a bit, then the next song, and the next, and so on.
Mrs. K asks:
1)Did I have a good time? OF COURSE!!!!! Seeing this band live strengthened my love for them and I have ascended to a new level of interest in this group. My friend and I even made better music after the concert. We picked up a few of the group's tricks. The only thing is that, since this band goes into long collective improvisations, many people find it enjoyable to smoke pot while listening. This made the air a little hard to breath, but we did not suffer any negative side effects!
2) Were they "amazing"? YES. The light effects were really really cool and the energy was, something really awesome that I can't think of a word for. Phish is a band that is much much better live than in their studio recordings (which are still amazing). Because of this, Phish tours alot and they are very succesful mostly do to their fans who follow them. Some albums I recommend are: A Picture of Nectar, Billy Breathes, and Rift. And of course, many of their live shows have been recorded and any of them are worth checking out.
3) Did I love it all? YES. The beginning started out amazing. It got to a point in the middle of the 1st set I believe where I started to lose some connection with the group because they played alot of songs I didnt know. I had a few songs in my mind that I was hoping so badly that they would play. Even though they didn't play those ones, they played a bunch of other ones that I didn't even think about that were still amazing! Afterwards my mind felt so sore from the music. It felt like running alot or doing alot of exercise when you feel really sweaty and worn out at the end, except for your brain. It was a very good feeling. I felt I learned alot from their music.
4) Will I remember this for the rest of my life? YES. Right now, this is, "The time I saw Phish, my favorite musical group in the whole world" but I'm trying to make it so it'll be, "Remember that time we saw Phish in Camden, and then in New York, and then ____ and then____, oh and, remember when they ____ at that show?" I'm hooked. There is truely no need for drugs in this world because music is all you need. I am determined to see Phish as many times as I possibly can, especially since they broke up in 2004 and this is their returning tour. I hope they stay around for a long time. My friend and I got in to Phish a year or two ago after they had broken up and we were disheartened because we thought we could never see them live, BUT THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER AND WE SAW THEM!! To be cheesy, this was truely a dream come true.
5) Did I have a favourite bit of music? YES. I had said earlier how I had a few songs in mind I hoped they would play. I was getting worried that they weren't going to play them (which they didnt). However, right when they played "Silent in the Morning" something overtook me and made me very content. It washed over me in a sort of reassuring way. It was at this time that I didn't care what songs they played, because I was seeing Phish and they were amazing anyway. Plus, when they played this song they added a few very cool things in that I heard on other live recordings and was very pleased.
Yes, there it is. In my opinion, this is the greatest rock band of all time. They know how to kick it in catchy but not cheesy ways, they grab you and put you in the middle of their improvisations, and basically everytime I listen to this band I halucinate and see so many different things (with out drugs). Oh yea, and they're all very talented musicians. Amazing WOOO!!!!
Mrs. K, I dig yo accent!
(Oh! Hehehe now I'm 20, so I'm not a teenager anymore =P heheheh)
